Hard Enamel Cloisonne
This has become our most popular pin style. Hard Enamel Cloisonne pins (formally known
as Epola) are durable, can use almost any color shade you request and are the highest quality pins
made with any frequency today for only a few pennies more per pin than most other methods.
These pins will sometimes be called new cloisonné or semi-cloisonné. Many manufacturers have actually
taken to calling this type as 'Cloisonne'. Authentic Cloisonné pins are rarely made anymore.
Be careful when comparing prices! (Hint: True cloisonne pins only offer
approximately 130 colors. Hard Enamel pins offer all Pantone colors, approximately 1,000.)
If a company says they can match their cloisonne pins to the Pantone Matching System,
they are not authentic cloisonne pins. Hard Enamel pins show fine detail better than authentic
cloisonne pins.

Classic Cloisonne
Old-world craftsmanship. Classic cloisonné is for jewelry-quality pins.
However, classic cloisonne does not allow the fine details of other types of pins.
Classic cloisonne pins are good for plain colors with little raised metail features.
Many pin manufacturers claim their pins are cloisonné but are really hard enamel/epola.
Be careful when comparing prices!

Soft Enamel
Sometimes referred to as Die Cast or Die Struck pins. Soft enamel pins are
less-expensive because we are able to plate before applying enamel paints. Polishing
time is also reduced. Therefore, our prices for these pins is lower than Hard Enamel.
Soft enamel pins will have a slight recess in the paint-fill areas. Soft enamel pins
can also be made without paint. These pins are called die-struck.

Die Struck
This method utilizes smooth metal cut from a die. It can be gold, silver or antique.
Prices below are for gold and silver. Many times, recessed areas are sandblasted. This
creates a high-quality look. Although sandblasting is additional, it's minimal and may be
worth the extra costs. Our consultants will advise you if sandblasting is an option.

Photo Etched
This process etches the design with acid into the brass metal allowing very fine
details. Can be with or without epoxy. Thinner metal is used in gold or silver plated.
These pins are excellent for pins larger than 2 inches because the cost is less than
other pins in that size. Many times, an epoxy dome is put on top of the pin.
